Neutering

If you would like your pet to be neutered please call our reception team and they will give you all the information you require and will book an appointment for you.

Pets for neutering are admitted to Broadleys Veterinary Hospital in Stirling on the morning of their operation and usually go home the same day. A nurse appointment for discharge includes comprehensive post-operative guidance and follow-up appointments are arranged at the same time.

Advantages of Neutering

Male Dogs

  • Prevents breeding
  • Prevents testicular cancer
  • Considerably reduces the risk of prostate disease including prostate cancer
  • If carried out when young can modify hormone related behaviours such as aggression, mounting, marking or roaming

We advise neutering from six months of age, following a full health check.

Female dogs

  • Prevents breeding and unwanted puppies
  • Removes the inconvenience of seasons with bleeding and unwelcome attention from male dogs
  • Prevents false pregnancies
  • If spaying is carried out before or after the first season the risk of mammary cancer in later life is much reduced

  • Prevents cancer of the uterus and ovaries

We advise neutering three months after the first season, following a full health check.
